A kind soul lost to cancer: Dr Lee Fuen Fuen, 50

Singapore has lost a kind and loving soul.

Dr Lee Fuen Fuen, 50, a dental surgeon and a clinical director of Le Mint’s Dental Practice, succumbed to stomach cancer on the early morning of 25 October 2021.

Dr Lee was conferred a double degree in Arts and Dental Science with honours by Trinity College, Dublin, Ireland. in 1997. A few years later, in 2004, she was conferred the “membership of Faculty of General Practice (UK) by the Royal College of Surgeon of England” for the “delivery of quality general dentistry”.

Dr Lee has been a competent dentist and a “doctor with a heart” for the past twenty years. According to her profile seen by Death Kopitiam, Dr Lee "commits herself to deliver public dental talks to the community, especially for the elderly".

Her life was an inspiration to everyone who has met her, according to an obituary published in The Straits Times on 26 October 2021. She has “left a legacy behind with her kindness and love for everyone”.

Her husband, Dr Tan Min Seet, an oral and maxillofacial specialist at Le Mint’s Dental Practice, told Shin Min Daily News that Dr Lee found out that she was suffering from fourth-stage stomach cancer in May last year.

After her diagnosis, she “stopped all work and focused on her treatments”. Throughout her the treatment process, Dr Lee was optimistic and firmly believed that she will be able to recover from her illness.

Unfortunately, her condition took a turn for the worst last month.

Prior to her diagnosis, she was actively assisting with the opening of Le Mint’s clinics at East Coast Road and City Hall (Adelphi), but, unfortunately, she was not able to witness in person the most recent opening of her clinic at East Coast.

Dr Tan told Shin Min that his wife had always believed that she can return to work at Le Mint’s East Coast branch.

Many of her patients are today her friends, and upon hearing of her diagnosis, many of them wanted to pay her a visit. But due to the pandemic, Dr Lee was unable to meet them in person.

Nevertheless, they brought her bouquets of flowers and tonic products and delivered them personally to their house, Dr Tan said.

Many has since visited Dr Lee’s wake at 765 Mountbatten Road, Singapore 437765, a testament to the sociable person she was and the good friendships she has cultivated over the years.

Death Kopitiam understands that her funeral is handled by SPS Care Pte Ltd.

Dr Lee leaves behind her grandmother, father, husband, a son, and a daughter.
