Remembering Lim Hee Huat, 54

Lim Hee Huat, 54, a block sweeper, was found dead on Saturday (Oct 16), trapped in a central refuse chute compactor room of Block 623C, Punggol Central, (S)823623. He reportedly has been working in the area for the past three years.

Tributes pour in for “Ah Lim”
More affectionately known as “Ah Lim” to the residents, he served as cleaner for Block 623A, 623B and 623C, Punggol Central. A post (Oct 17) published on the Punggol Horizon RC’s Facebook page described Ah Lim as a “well-loved member of our community”.

Mr Sharael Taha, Chairman of Pasir Ris-Punggol Town Council, describes Mr Lim as an “exemplary worker and well-liked by his colleagues and many of the residents”.

A 70-year-old resident, who lives in the vicinity, told Shin Min Daily News that Ah Lim often “greets them and would take the initiative to help with her groceries bags”. She added that “the residents here like him; he is helpful and sometimes when I wanted to buy him coffee, he would kindly decline”. Another resident, Rahman, said, “Ah Lim has a cheerful personality and every time he comes to our door, he would always greet us. He is well-loved by the residents”.

Another resident, Ms Chen, 40, told Lianhe Wanbao that Ah Lim is “friendly”, and always greets and speaks with [the residents]. He is also a “very diligent worker”, and whenever he sees that the lift is dirty, he would not hesitate to clean it.

Remembering his father
According to Mr Lim's son, Jason, Mr Lim has two children, a daughter and a son. His son, overwhelmed with the loss, wrote on his Facebook, “Sorry that you have to suffer, sorry that I'm not a good son."
He also expresses hope that he will "see him [again] in the future". He is also gratified that his father “is painless now”.
