NUS student fell from height at Prince George's Park Residences, dies in hospital

On 16 October 2021, the National University of Singapore Students’ Union (NUSSU) reported in a statement published on its Facebook page (see below) that a “resident of PGPR fell from height” on the morning of 14 October 2021. This student “succumbed to their injuries in the hospital”.

The age, gender and nationality of the student was not made known.

In an alleged email statement from NUS (see below), the deceased was identified as a male student.

Information about suicides in our universities are not readily available. Nevertheless, there are at least two previous instances of “unnatural deaths” in our universities reported in the local press.

According to a report by Yahoo!Singapore, a first year student, Peter Huen Kam Fa, 21, from NUS University Scholars Programme “was found dead in the varsity UTown campus” – he was believed to have hanged himself on 23 April 2013.

In 2016, a senior Yale-NUS was reported to have “died suddenly” on 29 September 2016, “catalysing conversations about mental health on campus” – this is an euphemism that the death involved a suicide. The student’s death, according to the police report then, was “unnatural”.
